This month marks one year of nerdy hi-jinx at Clubhouse Jager! Our weekly sci-fi movie night has become a big hit and we're happy to say we've made many awesome new friends because of it. For the past year, local screen print collectives Squad 19 and Who Made Who have been trading off duties as our official poster-makers for the event, creating amazing, coveted, limited edition screen-printed posters for many of the movies. Tonight's anniversary party is extra special because BOTH collectives will be on-hand to sell posters from past screenings that you might have missed for the bargain price of $10 each. Fill in your nerdy poster collection, or buy some as a holiday gift for a geeky pal! We're also starting EARLY tonight at 9pm with a couple rounds of sci-fi trivia hosted by Kate and Beth from l'etoile. Prizes include bar tabs and a grand prize of just about every poster ever made for JagerCon! Tonight's flick will be 12 Monkeys, and both Squad 19 and Who Made Who will be creating dueling 12 Monkeys posters for the occasion -- which as usual will be FREE and will be doled out after the flick.

There, she encounters such objects as the Exessive Machine, a genuine sex organ on which an accomplished artist of the keyboard, in this case, Durand Durand himself, can drive a victim to death by pleasure, a lesbian queen who, in her dream chamber, can make her fantasies take form, and a group of ladies smoking a giant hookah which, via a poor victim struggling in its glass globe, dispenses Essance of Man. More press for JagerCon!

The media loves JagerCon!

The Onion says this:

JagerCon: Sci-Fi Tuesdays - Blade Runner (Director's Cut)

Science-fiction writer Philip K. Dick spent his career—and by all accounts his leisure time—obsessed with the notion that reality and humanity were ultimately ungraspable concepts, so it’s fitting that the most famous film taken from his work would be so unstable. Director Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Dick’s short novel Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? has seen five major iterations, beginning with a 1982 work print used for test screenings through a 2007 cut released to theaters as “The Final Cut.” The looming question of whether Harrison Ford is a replicant or not is, therefore, definitively unanswerable—something Dick would have appreciated. Here, the weekly sci-fi movie night JagerCon screens the director’s cut first released in 1992. -The Onion/The Decider

Monday, March 2, 2009

Blade Runner Director's Cut THIS Tuesday!

Be sure to join us for this week's edition on JagerCon! We'll be screening the Director's Cut (the original, 2006 one) tonight starting at 10 p.m.!

Get there early to get a good seat!

We Love Tom Horgen!

From Friday's A+E Section of the Star Tribune:

Night of the Living Nerds

These days, it's good to be a geek.

Geeks have taken over the movie industry (how many superhero movies did you see last year?) and even that über-geek, Conan O'Brien, is bumping Jay Leno from "The Tonight Show."

Now the geeks are taking over one of the Twin Cities' coolest bars, Clubhouse Jäger. A new weekly night called "JagerCon: Sci-Fi Tuesdays" invites bargoers to "mingle with like-minded sci-fi geeks, discuss 'D&D' strategies and use that Captain Picard impression you've been perfecting to pick up chicks at the bar."

Each week, a different movie from the sci-fi pantheon is screened above the dance floor. This Tuesday it's the director's cut of the 1982 Harrison Ford film "Blade Runner." The night was created by two L'Etoile magazine alums, Kate Iverson and Beth Hammarlund. They will also screen TV shows such as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Star Trek."

To help their fellow geeks open up a bit, the bar will offer two-for-one drinks all night.

-Tom Horgen

More Press for JagerCon!

Metromix says:

What happens when fashionistas take a break from their glamorous lifestyles to indulge their nerdy sides? They stage screenings of old "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episodes and take breaks for cocktails over conversation of last week's installment of "BSG".

Luckily for fans who are slightly off the cutting edge of nerdiness, JagerCon features the creme of the science fiction crop. Curators and L'etoile magazine editors Kate Iverson and Beth Hammarlund have selected movies that appeal to even most centrist of geeks, including "Blade Runner", "TRON" and everyone's favorite David Bowie film "Labyrinth".

But even though Tuesdays are now nerd nights, Club Jager is still a pretty hip spot, so you'll want to go for something a little sleek and sexy before you go for your cos play. Who knows, you might just bump into the Sci-Fi fan of your dreams. -Metromix

While this doesn't technically count, since I wrote it, Secrets of the City says:

Head to North Loop fave Clubhouse Jager tonight for JagerCon, a weekly Sci-Fi meetup and nerdy movie/TV Show viewing party. This week's event features a free screening of Mirrormask. A dark fantasy tale from the mind of writer Neil Gaiman, Mirrormask is a beautiful and surreal film with a heavy helping of creepiness, just for good measure. While you're there, enjoy 2-4-1 drink specials all night on taps and rails, mingle with like-minded sci-fi/fantasy geeks, discuss D&D strategies, and use that Captain Picard impression you've been perfecting to pick up chicks at the bar. It totally works. On us anyway. -Kate Iverson

Where the Long Tail Ends says:

Northside Minneapolis hipster hangout Clubhouse Jäger is hosting L’Etoile Magazine’s new Tuesday night nerdgasm, JagerCon. The theme? Screenings of Sci-fi films and TV shows, ranging from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dr. Who, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Star Trek and many more. Hosted by Kate Iverson and Beth Hammarlund, the night also will involve two-for-one drink specials throughout the night and possibly the occasional clash between rogue LARPers. Screenings start at 10pm are 21+, and best of all, totally free. Nerd up!

This week’s screening will be the film Mirrormask, directed by über-artist Dave McKean and written by Newbery Award winning Neil Gaiman, most recently of Coraline fame. Upcoming weeks will feature the director’s cut of Bladerunner, and a double feature of Forbidden Planet and Angry Red Planet. Make sure to check both the Clubhouse Jäger site, the L’Etoile Magazine’s blog, and for those of you who want to skip the middleman, the JagerCon blog for future screenings. -Matt Gamble

JagerCon A-Listed in City Pages AND Vita.mn

The media loves nerds and we love the media!

City Pages says:

It's sometimes hard to find your place on the barhopping circuit when you are a geek, a freak, or a nerd. But that doesn't mean we don't enjoy a beer over a lengthy discussion on the use of bezoars in literature or why you ship Buffy/Spike over Buffy/Angel. Thankfully Clubhouse Jäger plans to turn Tuesday nights into a nerd summit for the socially awkward, overly enthusiastic, and sexy-but-bookish out there. Hosted by l'etoile magazine's Kate Iverson and Beth Hammarlund, Sci-Fi Tuesdays will feature screenings of sci-fi movies plus two-for-ones throughout the night. This week's screening is MirrorMask, a coming-of-age tale about a girl sucked into a visually stunning, bizarre alternate universe. Yeah, it's a Dave McKean/Neil Gaiman collaboration. Following weeks will feature the director's cut of Bladerunner, and a double-header screening of Forbidden Planet and Angry Red Planet. Twelve-sided dice and strong opinions on gaming strategies optional. 21+.
Tue., Feb. 24, 10 p.m., 2009 -Jessica Armbruster

Vita.mn says:

L’Etoile Magazine’s new weekly night at Clubhouse Jäger encourages you to embrace your inner nerd. Nerdettes Kate Iverson and Beth Hammarlund of L’Etoile will screen their favorite nerdy movies and TV shows, including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Dr. Who,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “Firefly,” “Star Trek” and more, plus two-for-one drink specials all night. This week’s screening is “MirrorMask,” the 2005 fantasy film written by Twin Cities author Neil Gaiman. It wouldn’t be L’Etoile if it weren’t stylish, so expect hipster lens-less eyeglasses rather than the real thing. -Jahna Peloquin

While we're on the topic, check out the trailer for this week's flick, Mirrormask, from the amazing mind of Neil Gaiman!

Who knows, you might meet a new friend!

Me: Black trench coat with Star Fleet emblem embroidered on the breast, sullenly sipping a Mike's Hard Lemonade and muttering about samurai swords in the corner.

You: Giving off a sexy medieval wench vibe, animatedly debating your friend about which Doctor Who is the hottest.

I thought I felt our psychic ESP matrixes click, was I dreaming? I couldn't help but notice the sideways look you gave me when they were playing the deleted scenes from "Serenity." I wasn't sure if you had something in your eye, or if my Darth Vader heavy-breathing impression was creeping you out. Either way, I've got enough limited edition Batman comic books to line our marriage bed ten times over.

I'll be at the screening next week, if you're nasty.
